A lot of weather...

We left Fran and Andrew and the sun was bright, rising up to 70 degrees...the goal was to eat in Midland, TX. It is the home town of GWB. We took 30 West from Ft. Worth toward Amarillo. There are a lot of truck dealers! We saw a lot of wind (farms) turbines. We stopped and had our daily runs around the gas stations and rest areas. The kids remind me to do it now. 30 ran into 20 and we took the business road into Midland. We found a great thrift store and I got REAL kickin' cowboy boots. Tony Lama, made in El Paso, dirty, worn and I'm sure some great cowgirl wore them all over this desert. Then we happened past George W's childhood home. Basically west Texas is dry and dirty. The wind kicked up and the temp went down as we drove closer to El Paso. The sky got darker as real tumbleweeds BLEW over the expressway. The speed limit is 80 so I let James drive for awhile. As 20 got closer to the Mexican border coming into El Paso we saw Border Patrol vehicles and a rugged trail coming down a hill from the south. Then there was a border patrol stop set up with HUGE flood lights on the expressway. We just don't see that stuff everyday in MI. The weather turned to sleet and snow, which was too bad because El Paso looked bigger and "cooler" than i thought. But hotels are filling up b/c the Sun Bowl is here tomorrow...we saw the parking lot filled with RV's. Not a great food day. We ate an entire bag of clementines in the car and had local/fast food tacos in Midland. GO Heels!
